Andrew Meisel

Andrew Meisel holds the position of Associate Principal Double Bass in the Opera Australia Orchestra. From the age of fifteen Andrew played bass in school orchestras, jazz ensembles and big bands. In 1993, in his first year of university at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he successfully auditioned for the position of tutti Double Bass with the Orchestra. Andrew studied in Sydney with Brett Berthold, in London with Thomas Martin, in New York with Timothy Cobb and Boston under Ed Barker. Andrew completed a Diploma of Music, majoring in performance, at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Fun fact: Andrew was fortunate to have the opportunity to play with the Bergen Philharmonic in Norway for six months. At this time he was able to travel to the Arctic Circle, in Norway, and have the life changing experience of witnessing the Northern Lights.
